Volunteer Opportunities
Wild Bird Rehabilitation, Inc. works with over 100 volunteers from the St. Louis community. Volunteers play a vital role in the education of the public and the day-to-day operations of the rehabilitation facility. The volunteers at Wild Bird Rehabilitation dedicate over 10,000 hours a year working to care for injured and orphaned birds.
Bird Volunteer
Our current volunteers need help on their shifts. We have lots of bird knowledge and good stories to share. Bird volunteers help in all aspects of bird care.
Starting with the basics, we will show you how to clean and set up cages for our bird patients. As you gain more experience you may move on to feeding birds and working with the youngsters. There is always a great deal to do during spring and summer months.
During our off season (Oct—March) you can take advantage of the extra time and reduced patient load to become more deeply involved with bird care through classes and one on one training.
Telephone/Receptionist
The receptionist is the first “WBR” person the general public encounters. This is a vital part or our work. During spring and summer months we answer a lot of phone calls! We will be glad to train those who would like to help out. You will not need prior knowledge about birds.
Maintenance Assistant
Our building sometimes needs some loving care. This position involves helping to keep the building and grounds in order through general and preventive maintenance. Special skills such as carpentry, plumbing or electrical expertise are helpful but not required.
Outreach
We attend various events throughout the year. If you would like to help but cannot work every week you might enjoy helping us at informational tables. Talking to people in the community of our mission is an important part of our work. Being able to interact with others with a concern for our environment and all creatures can be very satisfying work.
