WBR Mission Statement
 Our mission is to give the best possible care to injured, sick and orphaned wild birds and to release those birds back into their natural habitat.

WBR History

Wild Bird Rehabilitation, Inc. is one of four private wildlife rehabilitation organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The organization was incorporated in December of 1992 and began accepting birds in June 1993.

During our first year, WBR handled over 500 birds and over a 1,000 phone calls from the public. The staff was completely volunteer and financial support came directly from private donations.

Today, Wild Bird Rehabilitation, Inc. assists in helping over 2,500 birds a year, representing some 100 different native bird species. WBR receives referrals from St. Louis city, county and state animal agencies as well as from many veterinarians and other animal welfare organizations.

During the winter the facility is staffed by approximately 20 volunteers who donate four to eight hours a week. From mid April through September, our volunteer support increases to around 80, with two additional part-time staff employees. Volunteers and staff work under the direction of the Executive Director, Carol Kershner.

We'll need help with minor repairs and maintenance, such as painting, cleaning gutters and other minor jobs that always seem to accumulate on the "to do" list.

Peak season for WBR runs from April through September. During these months, WBR treats and cares for 200 birds a day. Each year, WBR handles more than 2,500 birds. The organization has been supported by a relatively small but loyal donor base. However, over the years hundreds of volunteers have donated precious time to clean, feed and maintain the bird population.  Every cage is cleaned twice daily and the floor swept continually and mopped every evening. Cleanliness and disease management is paramount to good animal care.

Outreach

Wild Bird Rehabilitation, Inc. sends volunteer speakers to school groups, scouts and community groups. WBR also provides information to the community with information tables at fairs, festivals and other local events. During the spring and summer season, WBR volunteer staff answer over 250 information phone calls every day. WBR offers avain education and outreach to over 30,000 individuals yearly.

Corporate sponsorship is necessary to keep these new internet programs funded. Donors will benefit knowing they are saving the lives of many native Missouri songbirds, but will also receive logo recognition on this website.
